aww... my worst guild experience was very painfull for me(almost quited game, at the end only took few weeks break).

well, i created my own guild, and few friends joined after a day or 2... well, guild became very sucessfull, with over 90 active members, a lot of team stuff, etc. i spent like 5-6 months, daily online for it. spent all money on it. didnt have time to play missions and work on titles or anything... well, after 6 months, i wanted few days break, i was really depressed of all that preasure(if u are leader, u are getting wisps all the time :S). i wanted a day or two for break, to get away from all ppl in that guild, to get some time for my self, ... i left guild for 1 day, but when i left, not many ppl was online, so i asked him to tell that to them, also added to announcements, and my co-leader changed me for this duration... after few hours i got whispers from one of the officers there, that co-leader told ppl that i left them behind, and that i joined new guild, etc. then he and some other officers told them that they are gonna make new guild, and most of ppl followed them... when i came back(after 14 hours) it was all destroyed... now im in my friends guild, and those loyal ppl from old guild also joined

i know i made mistake when i left, but most of ppl dont have any idea how is it to be a leader... and ppl really should leave in so short time

How do you "lose" 2 accounts? Key logger? still, you don't type in your email address everytime you log in though...right? I cannot imagine someone losing an account other than through being naive or ignorant.

Man where do you people find these guilds >_>? I'll admit 90% of the people online are retarded and somewhat insane, but still.. some of these are outright strange. Meh, having an organized and big guild is nice, but more people = more guild drama, which is about the worst thing you can get >_>

I have a story about one of the first guilds I was in (more than two years ago now). It was a small guild, about 12 people I think. The leader was organising GvG and they were 1 guy short. He asked me to come. I had just started the game and didn't have any max level characters or character slots for a PvP one. They were forcing me to delete a slot, which I didn't do ofcourse.
Long story short, they kicked me .

I have a 'worst experience' from an other perspective.
I've been in only 2 guilds in more than 20 months, so have been lucky I guess.

My story:
Early this year I joined my current guild.
We had a lot of fun playing together.
After a couple of months, we decided to focus somewhat more on GvG.
This caused several of our members and officers to leave to a guild we had been in alliance with for some time.
Over time, we lost several more members/officers to that guild.
No hard feelings, we have been in contact with them and even offered refugee to most of their active members when they had problems a couple of months ago.

Now this is normal life in a guild, but the trouble started.
Our GL did not want to play that often anymore.
I was second in command at that time but was forced to move out my house for a couple of weeks because of relationship problems.
Meaning there was no active point of contact, since it was also exam time for several other officers.

Being in a guild with people you like and seeing it becoming unstable and not being able to do anything about it is not good.
The moments I was able to get online I kept in touch with fellow officers and our GL as much as possible.
It's hard to hear others express their concern and all you can tell is "I don't know how long it will take before I can play regular again and take control of the guild".

In the end, there was not that much damage, but it's been a tough time for all members that were active during those months.

One comment:

That's absolutely true.
I know the alliance guild I was talking about above does not like large guilds for that reason.
I'm keeping a close eye to guild and alliance chat when we recruited a more than 5 new members in a couple of days.
Just to make sure there won't be any drama's.
I've seen it happen before and almost had to take action this weekend because a new recruit was crossing the lines.
Several officers and members solved this (without kicking), so I hope things remain calm for the next couple of weeks.

I've only ever been in one guild: the one I created. After I got done with Factions, I really got into the whole management aspect of Guild Wars, and recruited a lot of new people that over time, became very proficient at the game. I was generous in my advice, I gave away free items sometimes, and in return for my leadership I got plenty of donations that I used to fully stock the guild hall.

While I ended up buying most of the cheaper NPCs myself, a lot of people contributed 30K, 5K, 20K, and the like. Things were going great. I had a guild that helped each other PvE and AB...we even had a few ill-fated GvG games! However, I needed to move...so I wouldn't be on Guild Wars for quite a while. Rather than give the reigns over to a friend I knew personally, I decided to give it over to an eager officer whom I didn't trust as much. (However, my reason for choosing him was because he was more active.)

Now, before I moved, I had created a really nice community...it was going so well, that we had begun a sister guild and were leading in a small alliance. Well, while I was moving, it all fell apart. The guild cape was changed to a horrible color/symbol combination, almost all of the members had either left or jumped ship to the sister guild, and I was back as the guild leader two weeks before scheduled.

Of course, that's a bright side amidst the chaos...at least I was the guild leader again!

Well, since damage control was almost impossible, I basically put the guild on hold for a few months. I tried again, but it just wasn't the same anymore. My second attempt had half as many members and they kept leaving in droves.

In the end, I deleted my original 9 month old character, created a new primary, changed Guild Halls (all the NPCs transfered over) and I now use it as my own personal town.

I created the guild. I led a small community. It's been through a lot. I guess when the guild fell apart I felt disappointed. The members who I thought were so loyal ended up just drifting away, but you know what? My hall has survived the test of time.

And that is why to this day I refuse to join any other guild. There's just too much achievement and memories in the one I created! And of course, the lesson I learned is to let a friend I know help out...because those are the people you can usually trust a lot more.

Default Immaturity...

For awhile, in FooL, we had a policy that you would become an officer if you brought ppl over with you. This worked awesome for some time, because you ended up with a ton of players who were not having fun in gw with most of the inactive guilds out there, quickly joining our guild and bringing over their friends. We raised our numbers to about thirty daily active members... and then I invited this guy and his friend. Because his friend came with him, I made him an officer. My guild has a ton of new ppl to the game, who rely on my top 10 members to learn the game. Because the guild was not to this newly appointed officer's liking... he pulled a lame move on my guild. He kicked about 20+ daily active members, changed the status screen on my guild to say some choice words, and then spammed messages about me in RA. Ppl were messaging me, accusing me of all kinds of things. It sucked... because I am 26 years old and play the game to have fun with friends. FooL lost a good eight members because of it. Luckily for my guild, we have a good base, and I quickly got 20+ members right back in next logon. The was a bad day of guildwars, however, I guess it pays to be a noble and honest player... in a noble and honest guild. We are back up to about twenty-five daily active and things are okay again. He is in these forums... flaming "noobs"... and spewing his nonsense. I hope ppl screen members before they make them officers. Do not make the same mistake as I made as a leader. Your guild will suffer because of it.

Worst experience ever was my two week stint in a here un-named (to prevent flames) mega guild. Way, way too many people, and quite frankly most of them weren't friendly and/or their attitudes were very immature. The guild events felt sheisty and cultish. I never looked back.

I really just enjoy a smallish guild of 30 or 40 people. Enough people to have plenty online at a time but small enough that you get to know each other, which is how the best teams function, understanding each other's styles. Also, having a dose of respect for other players. I could never stay in a guild where the leader was yelling obcenities at me on Vent, that's freakin' crazy. It's a game, get a grip.

Unfortunately, guilds are just so fragile. I have been a member of 4 guilds that were small and personable, but eventually they fell apart. I hate guild-hopping but I didn't have much choice.

I was in what i thought was my gonna be my last guild Pve Based guild really... So I was in this guild I got promoted to officer and I must say I poor'd alot of effort into this guild i had more recruits pushed more for guild expansion etc. I was basically trying hardest to be the best officer i could be. There was a guild rule of no swearing. So I didnt swear which was fine by me in gc or ac but at times it was a group of us older mature members on vent and we would swear and mess around but only around each other.

So anyhow long story short another officer told me he "heard" i was swearing in vent i said i was but only around people like me. he then told the guild leader and he said that was unacceptable and i told him i didnt really agree with it, and i would have to think about what i was gonna do. then i look in member list and im demoted and then someone in guild asks why i was demoted and i answered because i dont agree with the guild leader on something then i was in great temple of bathazar. So the next day I told my friends in guild and 2 officers and about 20 members left the guild and joined one we formed =D.

I'm now the guild leader of HaX and we got more members and we do everything in game from pve to gvg we got our own vent and i got to say it feels good. =D

I'm quite unlucky when it comes to guilds. The first guild I joined was a really big one which had a base in many MMO's. They were like a family. But... like a family with rules that seemed to be carved in stone. While I did not like that, I tried not to pay attention.
After a short while I was promoted to officer because of my willingness to help others and knowledge of the game (I'm a worthless leader, but whatever). Then I began to notice something fishy. A lot was being kept secret from guildies, just things like officers going out of town for a week...little things that made me feel the rules-bickering and buttkissing was getting out of hand in the guild.
What eventually pissed me off was an officer getting kicked because she told a guild member something she did not need to know (no idea what it was). That guild member, a good friend of mine immediately left the guild with her husband and a few others. In disgust of this event, I posted it all on their public forum and left.

The second guild I was in had been founded by someone who left a month earlier than I did, but for other reasons. They seemed like a nice bunch, but did not care for PvP, and did not like getting their builds critiqued (what would be okay if they would at least have some knowledge of the game). In addition, one of my fellow members was constantly asking me for help, money, or whatever he needed, and would not take 'no' as an answer. Well, he did not listen to any answer at all. I put him on my ignore list and an officer kicked me for being rude.

Lately I thought I had found the best guild I could be in. It was an all-dutch guild with lots of activity, helpful members, occasional PvP, and other events. we all had a great time in there until the GM had too many things on her head and could not combine that with her position as GM. Nobody wanted to take over the lead, as she had always been in charge, for more than a year. So the guild is now inactive, and I moved on.
